Youth Ministry Quarterly

There is a lack of resource materials for the furtherance of youth ministry in Isabela. We tend to rely on old formulae and old ways in conducting ministry for and with young people. However, as a practice and as a vocation, Youth Ministry is dynamic and new strategies are being utilized by other Christian groups in order to effectively reach out to young people and implement their Youth Ministry program. As such, there is a need for a publication that will cater to the needs of young people and youth ministers within the United Methodist Church, as well as other youth ministry groups in the province. As part of the ministry of TULAY, we will launch the Youth Ministry Quarterly.

AIMS

The aims of the publication will be:

  1. Provide a venue for the discussion of the issues confronting the young people. Our society has undergone great changes in the past years and it is still being changed now. The young people are being beset by the shifting patterns of culture brought about by globalization, the blurring of the lines between right and wrong, the increasing sexual 'liberation' and practice among young people, poverty, education and the lack of employment opportunities among others. We need to discuss these issues while at the same time capturing the interest of young people and youth ministers alike.
  2. Provide a venue for the sharing of strategies in the conduct of youth ministry in the province. It will feature articles concerning successful youth ministries, both in Isabela and in Manila. It will showcase how the success was brought about and how other youth ministries could benefit from the example.
  3. It will also feature articles on Contemporary Christian Music, with a bent on compositions by Filipino artists. This way, we will be able to promote the local Christian musicians and hopefully, develop our own Pinoy CCM. and
  4. Enjoin young people to a life of adventure with Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

MARKET

The Publication will target the UMC local churches and pastors and the UMYFers in Isabela. Eventually, as the paper becomes more stable, we will target other Christian Fellowships and Groups as market.

CONTENTS

Youth Ministry Quarterly may contain the following sections: (1) Articles on Youth Ministry: how tos, feature on a successful/thriving youth ministry; (2) Devotional/sermons; (3) Group dynamics; (4) youth program/Activity ideas; (5) Local church in focus (not necessarily UMC); (6) Columns; and (7) Contemporary Christian Music Corner.

The publication will contain approximately 16 pages (4 spreads) per issue and will be printed on 8.5"x11" paper.

Staff and Writers

Initially, the publication will be handled by Mighty C. Rasing and Earlie Pasion of the Multi-media and Information Committee. But writers may be designated from the pool of Methodist young people in the province, as well as those studying in Manila. We will also employ the help of pastors, especially for the devotionals/sermons.

DISTRIBUTION

Initially, this publication will be distributed among the UMC local churches in Isabela. Each copy will cost about PhP 40.00. We will seek the permission and endorsement of the Annual Conference and of the Bishop for us to be able to distribute this throughout Isabela. In regards to the distribution and collection of fees, we need to designate a Circulation Manager who is based in the province. We will also look into the possibility of printing the publication in magazine format and have it marketed to a local Christian bookstore.

LAUNCHING

The publication's first issue will be launched by the end of May 2006 and will become operational beginning that quarter.

This is but a beginning of the Publications ministry of TULAY. As the commercial of a popular energy drink states: "Great things start from small beginnings…" This may be a small beginning but it will definitely go a long way since it is intended to glorify the Lord and expand His kingdom here on Earth.
